Jitlada, Hollywood

Gourmet had an article last year featuring the best Thai restaurants in L.A., and Jitlada got top billing. I went to Jitlada this past weekend and got the Southern Thai curry. The curry tastes nothing like other Thai curries I've had in the past. In its mild form, it's delicious with hints of sweetness and spiciness. Just a warning, though--their "regular" is most other restaurant's "spicy"... or "really spicy", for that matter... Order it mild.

Tip 1: Be adventurous and order from the Southern Thai menu here. Don't get the pad thai or whatever dishes you would normally get at a typical Thai restaurant. This isn't your typical Thai restaurant!

Tip 2: Order everything "extremely mild", unless you're a spice junky. Tell the waiter "extremely mild". Don't say I didn't warn you!

Tip 3: Try their famous mussels. They're gigantic and full of flavor! Just get it mild... Hehe. Do you see a theme here?

What they give you to cool your mouth down if you order it "regular" spice level..
